bronchitis

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the walls of the bronchial airways Through the bronchi, air goes into the lungs or out of the lungs into the environment Phlegm, thickened mucus, maybe discolored, are common during bronchitis Bronchitis can be acute or chronic

Acute bronchitis is quite common and sometimes develops after a cold or other viral infection Chronic bronchitis is a more serious condition and is caused by frequent irritation and inflammation of the walls, often due to tobacco use.

Acute bronchitis usually resolves within a few days with no residual effects, although the cough may persist for several weeks. If you have frequent bouts of bronchitis, you may have chronic bronchitis that requires medical attention Chronic bronchitis is one of the conditions included in the group of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD).

Acute bronchitis is mostly caused by the same viruses that cause colds and flu. Antibiotics cannot fight the virus, so in most cases of bronchitis, the use of antibiotics is not indicated

The most common cause of chronic bronchitis is tobacco use Air pollution and toxic emissions in the environment and workplace also contribute to the development of chronic bronchitis

In acute or chronic bronchitis, symptoms and signs include:

  • Coughing
  • Mucus, sputum that may be clear, white, yellow-gray or green Rarely, there may also be a small amount of blood
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Slight temperature rise and chills
  • Chest discomfort

If you have acute bronchitis, you may continue to cough for several weeks even after the inflammation has passed. Chronic bronchitis is often characterized by a cough with phlegm that lasts at least 3 months for two (consecutive) years.

If you have chronic bronchitis, there may be periods when signs and symptoms get worse. At this time, chronic bronchitis is complicated by acute bronchitis
